Into December we go! And a winter welcome it is for many of us in the U.S. Cold weather, snow, brisk to blazing winds...brrrrrrrrrr!!!

Be careful out there! The news folks said that a heavy and blinding snow squall "caused" the huge pile-up accident involving nearly 50 cars near the Illinois-Indiana border over this weekend. In there somewhere is some faulty reasoning, placing the blame or causation on the snow storm itself, and not on the drivers of the vehicles. Sure, you can have an "accident" where no one is to blame. But not usually.

In this case, it was more the fault of the engineers who designed the cars without the ability to stop instantly on absolutely slick surfaces, when the cars were obviously making the drivers drive too fast because they don't have internal regulators to slow them down when the drivers cannot see very far because of the snow. I wonder how the "self-driving" autonomous cars would have fared in these circumstances.

How much room should you leave in front of your care when you are going 50-70 miles per hour on a road that you cannot stop on because of snow and ice, especially if you can't see more than a half-mile ahead? Seriously! I find it very, very difficult to feel sorry for anyone in this "accident" pile-up mess, because it is in some ways all of their faults. It makes me wonder why insurance can cover such negligence or even stupidity. And we wonder why insurance rates keep going up...

You can go on and on placing the blame on something or someone else. What a mess. The insurance dollars that must now go out, and the wasted time lost for professional drivers and private individuals whose travel plans are disrupted. But if they all just hurry a little bit more, and keep pushing it a little harder, they can get there quicker and have more time to...to what? Just use a little more “uncommon” sense.

Slow down! Give it a rest! Take some time to contemplate life during any intentional or unplanned lulls during the coming weeks. Do some reading, write some letters (does anyone do that anymore?), make some calls to loved ones or shut-ins you care about. Make some homemade cookies or bread, with some extra to share with a neighbor.

Be at peace, as much as you can. And put your trust in the Lord God, loving Him with your whole heart!

Blessings!

Like Aunt Bee, after tasting the “Indian elixir,” the economy is hooked on AI spending, and the whole economy could go down with it, when or if many of the Big Tech stocks crash and burn. Like Colonel Harvey’s “Indian elixir,” modeled after “the Indian way” and “nature’s way,” AI is now something that many want to have faith in. They would rather believe in AI than their own ability to think and reason. But Colonel Harvey’s elixir was put under a microscope and a local doctor found it to be “happy water.” Let’s put AI under a microscope.

A popular Christmas song muses the question, “Where Are You, Christmas? Why Can’t I Find You?” This song reminds me of Hank Ketcham's popular Dennis the Menace cartoon, which appeared in American newspapers for nearly 30 years. The scene is on Christmas afternoon, and Dennis has finally opened all his presents. He's up to his chin in a sea of toys and gifts. You can't see the floor because of all his stuff. The caption is a lament. Dennis says, "Is this all?"

Next year, Americans will be facing our nation’s most critical midterm election. Never have the stakes been so high. President Donald Trump is attempting to revamp the Republican Party and the federal bureaucracy, while ending long-standing international conflicts. While he is attempting to “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) and undo the horrible damage inflicted by his predecessor, President Joe Biden, Democrats are obsessed with stopping everything he proposes and are infected with “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
